Itinerary

Uxmal and Kabah are the most representative archaeological sites along the Pucc Route. During this tour you'll get to admire the detailed artwork in the structures of this particular building style, Puuc Mayan. You will visit the Governor's Palace, the Nun's Quadrangle, the Ball Court, in Uxmal; as well as the famous Kabah’s Arc and the Chaac’s sculptures. Both places have it's own mythical stories!

How does this Day Trip work?

Let’s go to Uxmal!

The excursion will start early in the morning when your guide picks you up at your hotel in Merida.

First we will visit Uxmal archaeological site, one of the most popular ancient mayan cities. “Uxmal” in maya means “three times built”. There, the guide will explain in depth the Puuc building style representative of the southwest region of Yucatan.

The Nun's Quadrangle, the Ball court, and the Turtle are the best examples of this highly decorative and detailed style. It owes its name to the Puuc hills located in the region.

The Governor's Palace is the most famous structure in Uxmal, and not only it's the best example of puuc architecture, it has also been recognized as the most beautiful building in Mesoamerica!

Now for Kabah!

After Uxmal, you will explore the archeological site of Kabah, mayan name that means “lord of a strong hand”. Kabah is linked to Uxmal by a “sac be" or white road used for ceremonial purpouses.

Kabah is one of the stops of the Puuc Route and here you can find many structures with carved masks of the God Chaac, mayan god of rain, and one of the most important of the region due to the absence of cenotes; mayans had to build their own cisterns and prayed for rain to this god!
